Enjoy your skiing to the full ~ 10 TOP TIPS...

1. SOCKS – Who's idea was it to wear big chunky socks??!!
How uncomfortable! Your boot is meant to be moderately tight. If you have a thick sock in there ~ chances are it’s going to rub especially round your ankle and shin. Wear fairly thin socks. Unless it’s minus 20 your boots should do the "keeping warm" bit! And you don’t have to splash out £15+ on special “carving socks”!?! I get my socks from boots – normal knee high, smooth socks for about £3.50 each!
2. BOOTS - We’ve all been there – ouch!
Your boot should be as snug as possible without cutting of any blood supply!! If you get boots which feel more comfortable in the shop because they are 1 or 2 sizes too big this will make skiing more difficult. If your foot can move around inside your boot - you will turn your foot but not the ski. You may be making perfect “moves” but unless your foot talks directly to your ski it can feel very awkward.
Whether you are hiring or buying boots – take your time to get a good fit. It wants to be as snug as possible, matching your contours, firmly holding your ankle and give you room to wiggle your toes. Having a foot bed really helps too. Even your foot bed from your own trainers will be much more comfy than a flat, hard sole to stand on.
I spent nearly 2 hours in the shop buying my last pair which was well worth it as they fit like a glove and painful feet don't interfere with my skiing ~ Hoorah!!
3. GOGGLES – Steamy windows!!?
The main reason that goggles steam up is because we A) put them on a very hot head – use sunglasses instead, or B) we rest them on our snowy or damp hat when in a lift queue etc. The foam around the goggles needs to stay as dry as possible so take them off, shake them off and put in your jacket when not using them. Put them on a radiator in your restaurant if out on a full on powder day! Whoo-hoo!
